Babson Survival Guide Part 9: Public Safety (Babo)

babson public safety office

Now that you know about parties, you need to know about the people who shut them down - "Babo." That's the nickname for Babson's police officers. The most important thing to know here is that these are real Wellesley police officers, not some campus security guards. Granted all they do is drive around in Ford Explorers all day, but don't doubt their authority.

There is a lot more to Babo than just patrolling for underage drinking, though. They constantly get calls to let students into their rooms when they have locked themselves out. Dealing with underage drinking and lockouts takes a lot of time. So much time that the only other thing they do is write parking tickets.

Aside from that, Public Safety will get you a parking pass and will lend you a snow shovel in the winter when your car is under two feet of snow. (If you've never seen snow before, just wait till winter at Babson.)

You can also get a van certification from Public Safety. Babson has a few minivans that students are allowed to use for school-approved events. You just have to watch a video and take an easy test to get your van license (although it does take like 4 hours.)
