Babson Survival Guide Part 13: Things to do in Wellesley

Now that we have exhausted our discussion of Babson, it's time to think about the town of Wellesley and your other surroundings. Sometimes you just need to get away from Babson. Maybe you want to have fun, go to the bars, go hiking, or go grocery shopping.

First let's think about Wellesley itself...

Wellesley, MA

Wellesley is a "dry" town. That should give you an idea of what goes on there. It is certainly not a college town. It is a very traditional, upper-class neighborhood. There is no Wal-Mart, McDonalds, or late-night hangout.

However, one thing you can do is take a nice evening walk downtown to get ice cream. Just make sure to do this in September while the weather is still nice.

Wellesley College

You probably know that Babson has a 60/40 guy/girl ratio. But guys, you're probably thinking you'll just go down the road to Wellesley College. It's an all girl school so they'll be all over you, right? Nice try. Babson guys, which are typically arrogant, don't always get a warm welcome at Wellesley. Plus, it is a couple miles away, not down the street.

It is a really cool place though so you should check it out at least once.

Shopping

After eating at Babson for a few weeks, you'll be sick of the dining halls for good. You'll probably be sick (literally) too. That is where the grocery stores come in handy. There is a Star Market that is maybe a mile away, down Wellesley Ave on the other side of Wellesley High School. For more options, there is a Stop & Shop (open 24 hours) down Route 9 in Natick. Wal-Mart is a bit further down Route 9 in the Framingham area.

Hiking and Jogging

Surprisingly, there are some nice paths in the area that are great for jogging. These are called the Wellesley Trails. They twist through the town of Wellesley and go right by Babson. The trails are marked by little white signs with yellow, green, blue, or pink arrows. You can find maps at any of the small trailhead parking areas.

For hiking or mountain biking, there is a place called Needham Woods. It's only about a mile down the road out of the Olin College entrance (which is actually connected to Babson's campus.) It has some nice wooded trails and a couple ponds.

Clubbing

This is where Boston comes in handy. Some popular clubs include Avalon, Rumor, and Venu.
