If You Drink Enough, You Won't Remember How Crappy It Was
At a recent mandatory alcohol education seminar that I attended, I learned that 40% more students per capita at Babson binge drink on a weekly basis than the national average. that’s because Babson students have nothing else to do but drink and study (if they have time to drink).
for the #1 homework load in the country, Babson does a helluva job letting us “cut-loose” on the weekends. the administration of Babson doesn’t realize that even if babo busts every single party on campus every weekend, kids are still going to be drinking themselves into oblivion. every year a half a dozen freshmen get sent to the hospital within the first week of school. an introduction to the most stressful and work-filled campus in the nation corresponding with young kids drinking themselves into a coma - coincidence? I think not.
Babson is evil. ask any Babson student if they actually like being here. ill bet my aorta that they’ll say “no”. no one comes here for the riveting social scene, it’s the education.
The Babson administration has forgotten that we're college students, no matter how you slice it. for anyone at Babson that has never spent a weekend at a large state “party” school, I highly suggest it. you get to see what you’re missing out on and depriving yourself of.
now, I am not suggesting by any means that “partying” is all there is supposed to be in college. at any given moment there's a multitude of entertaining and fun things and events or locations that a student could attend to without feeling the need to be drunk off your ass at. we go to a school that’s cold and overcast, like at least 80% of the year.
Babson is small, private, cold, and rural: all of which adjectives statistically increase the amount of binge drinking per capita at a school. drink we do, but party we don’t. the other day, I was talking to a group of over 21’s that were “busted” for having too much beer in one place at the one time. I cannot begin to explain how asinine the central source policy is. not only is the policy itself excruciatingly crippling to campus life, but even more painful is the fact that Babson is only one of a few colleges in the entire state of Massachusetts that actually enforces it.
Babson students work hard and play harder, that’s a well recognized fact. however, I don’t believe that the “playing” that is being done is of high quality. drinking is an excellent escape from reality, as well as an incredible way to de-stress…when there's nothing else to do.
