Babson College in One Day - Part 2
So you've read Part 1, and you're wondering about the "Babson in one day" title. Just read this response and you'll figure it out...
Hey Crapmaster,
Just wanted to thank you again for your insightful email and update you on my two-day experience at Babson.
The first thing I did when I got to Babson was start asking questions. Most students who strayed away from the typical "I have nothing bad to say abuot Babson" said it was the lack of social life that was the worst part. Indeed, this was confirmed later that night when my host (who was great) brought me and the other overnighters to a pre-game session, Roger's Pub (ew, that's one boring ass pub) some parties and even a SODA (I know! Not only was my host a freshman, but she brought kids who weren't even attending Babson!) Anyway, everything revolved around kids binge drinking and just standing around. There was nothing else except that. Seriously, it was pretty lame, even though my host and her friends insisted that it was "pretty wild".
Besides that, there really wasn't anything to do, as far as fun events.
I also brought up the drop in rankings and oclruinedmylife.com, and lots of students were kind of smiling saying "oh right, i've heard about that..." They got pretty defensive.
So at Basically Babson day President Barefoot came out and talked, and it was boring. Then a student who was definitely an over achiever but a poorly articulate speaker did her sphiel. Yeah that was boring. The events were organized that you had 3 time slots to attend one presentation, so I had to pick which ones I thought were the most important, rather than seeing all of them. There was one about Babson's Career Services, which was hosted by its reps and a student panel that answered the audience's questions. The three kids were so bored and unenthusiastic, same goes for the audience. And as it turns out, the kids got jobs because they had family connections, not because of the career services office. By the way, my high school's career office is so much better it's not even funny.
I guess I don't want to say it was an overall negative experience. I was definitely enlightened by the people I met, they were awesome. But everything else just seemed so forced and underwhelming.
Re-reading this email has definitely confirmed my decision to attend Bentley. Best of luck to you and the rest of the gang. Thanks for your input and knowledge.
Look at that. I'm amazed that this person figured out what Babson is all about just from one day!
From the binge drinking to the family connections to get jobs, they figured it out.
Hopefully that helped you figure things out, and don't be afraid to email us with any questions.
